Raising Awareness for a Better Bednet
Thomas Danaher
Billions of dollars have been donated in the past 20 years to distribute 3 billion bednets in malaria-infested countries.
But the current design is over 80 years old — and nearly impossible to use. Most are discarded within a few months or repurposed into fishing nets, tablecloths, ties for animals, etc.
NGOs, donors and even the World Health Organization continue to defend the outdated design — yet donations are falling each year for one clear reason: the old bednet doesn't fight malaria as promised.
OKnet.org's mission is to raise awareness for an improved bednet design. Our patented design includes 16 significant advantages: It is simpler to use, faster to assemble, easier to store, harder to damage, smaller to transport, lighter to carry and more.
OKnet™ uses the same slow-release insecticide mesh fabric as the current design. They are produced by the largest bednet manufacturer in the world.
The next step is to test OKnet™ in real-world conditions. Field trials will show whether they protect against malaria more effectively — or less — than WHO-approved bednets. Reliable results will be obtained because evaluations are performed by WHO-accredited teams.
If these tests succeed, donors will find it difficult not to adopt what I believe is a vastly improved weapon in the war against malaria.
I've spent over 25 years designing tents and hold several patents in this field. If you agree the new EZnet™ bednet deserves a field test, please consider supporting us.
